Maundy Thursday

Prayer of Confession before Communion

The sacrifice of God is a broken spirit;
a broken and contrite heart God will not despise.
Let us come to the Lord, who is full of compassion,
and acknowledge our transgressions in penitence and faith.

Wash me thoroughly from my wickedness
and cleanse me from my sin:
Lord, have mercy.
Make me a clean heart, O God,
and renew a right spirit within me:
Christ, have mercy.
Cast me not away from your presence
and take not your holy spirit from me:
Lord, have mercy.

Peter's Soul Cry

Lord, I’m anxious –
            Where are you?
You are knelt on the ground in prayer.
Lord, I’m tempted -
Where are you?
Sweat and blood drip through your hair.
Lord, I’m frightened –
            Where are you?
You’re alone in the garden weeping.
Lord, I’m lost –
            Where are you?
I thought you would always be there.

We do not have a high priest who is unable to feel sympathy for our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are – yet he did not sin. Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.
Hebrews 4.15-16
