Good Friday
O Love, that wilt not let me go,
I rest my weary soul in Thee;
I give Thee back the life I owe,
That in Thine ocean depths its flow
May richer, fuller be.
O Light, that followest all my way,
I yield my flickering torch to Thee;
My heart restores its borrowed ray,
That in Thy sunshine’s blaze its day
May brighter, fairer be.
O Joy, that seekest me through pain,
I cannot close my heart to Thee;
I trace the rainbow through the rain,
And feel the promise is not vain
That morn shall tearless be.
O Cross, that liftest up my head,
I dare not ask to fly from Thee;
I lay in dust life’s glory dead,
And from the ground there blossoms red
Life that shall endless be.
Prayer of Thanksgiving
Almighty God of light and life, thank you for the wonderful and awful beauty of Good Friday. Thank you, Lord Jesus, for your sacrifice.
Holy Spirit, thank you that when our minds struggle to fathom the mystery of God’s plan of salvation, you hear the cry of our spirit – a cry of thankfulness, love and worship.
Now all glory to God, who is able to make you strong, just as [the] Good News says. This message about Jesus Christ has revealed his plan for you … a plan kept secret from the beginning of time. But now as the prophets foretold and as the eternal God has commanded, this message is made known to all [people] everywhere, so that they too might believe and obey him. All glory to the only wise God, through Jesus Christ, forever. Amen.
